COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--The Mountain West Conference office announced Monday that TCU freshman forward Starr Crawford was named MWC Co-Player of the Week for her efforts on the court last week. Crawford shared the honor with UNLV sophomore forward Jaime Smith.
Crawford put up two solid performances last week against a pair of 2009 NCAA Tournament qualifiers in Fresno State and No. 20 Oklahoma. She averaged 12.5 points, 15.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game while helping lead the Lady Frogs to a split of the two games. TCU fell by only four points (74-70) on the home court of the Sooners, who advanced to the Women's Final Four a season ago.
A native of Arlington, Texas, Crawford pulled down 17 boards against Fresno State, which was the most for a TCU player since the 2006-07 season, and the second-most for a Horned Frog freshman. She also scored six points on 3-of-8 shooting (.375) during the 63-52 victory over the Bulldogs.
Craford went on to post her second double-double in three games on the road against Oklahoma with a career-high 19 points (8-of-17, .471) and 13 rebounds. She scored five points in the final 1:30 to put TCU within reach of tying the game before OU pulled away with the 74-70 win.
Both Crawford and Smith were honored for the first time in their careers.
