FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU's Jake Kirkpatrick has been added to the watch list for the Rimington Trophy, presented to the nation's top center.
A junior from Tyler, Texas, Kirkpatrick is in his first year as a starter for the Horned Frogs. The 6-foot-3, 305-pound Kirkpatrick did not play football until his senior year of high school. He can dunk a basketball and was a first-team all-state selection and 5-A District Most Valuable Player on the hardwood as a junior.
Kirkpatrick has been instrumental in TCU ranking 12th in the nation in rushing offense at 220.0 yards per game this season. The Horned Frogs top the Mountain West Conference and are 21st nationally in scoring (34.8 points per game) while placing 27th in total offense (423.5 yards per game).
Kirkpatrick lettered as a reserve the previous two seasons while playing behind graduated three-time All-Mountain West Conference selection Blake Schlueter.
