FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU swimming and diving teams will open up the Mountain West Conference schedule this week, hitting the road to take on Colorado State and Air Force.
The Horned Frogs began the season at the North Texas Relays with the men taking first place honors and the women claiming runner-up accolades. For the men, sophomore Edgar Crespo led the Frogs to four relay wins, followed by junior Edgar Peyro and freshman Devin Price with three wins apiece. On the women's side, freshman Maggie Smith teamed up with sophomores Megan Higginbotham and Kelsey Krug to win the 300-breast relay, while Zrinka Korac and Ashley Bolin joined newcomers Kristi Dena and Ali Berry for the 500-free medal.
Colorado State has earned first place honors at the University of Denver Invitational and Rocky Mountain Invitational. The Rams' broke seven pool records at the Colorado School of Mines Natatorium, claiming first place honors over four NCAA Division II programs. Last season, the Frogs' snapped a Rams' four-meet winning streak, handing CSU it's first loss of the year.
Air Force began the year at the Pacific Invitational, earning third place on the men's side and fourth place for the women. Among the leaders for the Falcon men is junior Benjamin Gunn, the defending conference champion in the 200 IM, as well as seniors Chris Morin and Sean O'Keefe. On the women's squad, the top returners for the Air Force women this year include seniors Katelyn Hunter and Becky Gleason, both of whom rank among the top 10 all-time at the Academy in their respective events.
Northern Colorado will also join the Air Force meet on Friday, as the Bears see their first action of the season. With new head coach Kelly McClanahan on deck, UNC has a tough 2009-10 schedule, taking on the likes of Nebraska, East Carolina, Colorado State, TCU and San Diego State.
TCU host its annual alumni meet on Oct. 31 to coincide with the weekend's homecoming festivities. The Frogs' first home dual meet is set for Nov. 21 against Wyoming.
