FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrap-up the home slate this weekend, hosting Centenary College and Mountain West Conference foe San Diego State Saturday at 1 p.m. CT at the University Rec Center.
The TCU men's team (2-5 overall, 1-4 MWC) will look carry on the momentum from Saturday's 145-92 win over Utah. Junior Josh Bagby and sophomore Edgar Peyro each contributed a pair of individual wins, while also competing in both TCU relay victories. Bagby set his regular season high in the 100-free at 45.87 against the Utes, while Peyro turned in his top performance of the year in the 200-breast with a clocking of 2:05.80. Sophomore Jeff Gettel is currently tied with Bagby for the team-lead with 10 wins on the season. Gettel is undefeated against the MWC in the 200-back, while also posting three wins in the 100-back. Senior diver R.J. Hesselberg swept the springboard events Saturday, taking the third-meter dive at 353.85 and setting a season-high from the one-meter board at 311.02.
The TCU women's squad will enter this weekend's meet after tying the Utes, 121.5-121.5 with an overall record of 4-3-1, including a 2-3-1 clip against the MWC. Sophomore Maria Paula Alvarez has been making waves, breaking the TCU 1000-free record twice last week against the UNLV and Utah. Her newest record of 10:08.80 marks Alvarez' fourth time to break the school record, third of the season and ranks fourth all-time in MWC history.
Newcomer Ashley Bolin has continued to impress in her freshman campaign, as she is currently knotted with Alvarez for the most wins on the squad with 11 victories through Saturday. Bolin picked up a pair of wins for the fourth time in the last five dual meets for TCU versus the Utes, taking the 200-IM and 100-free. Junior Stephanie Futscher and Brittney Martinez also stepped up big vs. Utah, pacing the field in the 200-fly and 200-back, respectively.
The San Diego State's women's team currently holds an overall mark of 5-4 and a MWC record of 2-4, but the Aztecs are coming to town off of impressive wins against Cal State Bakersfield and Cal State East Bay. In the two meets, SDSU won 23 of 28 events, as junior Kyla Power and freshman Jeanette Enzell captured five wins each. Last season, the Aztecs upended the Frogs, 169-129, for the first time since TCU joined the MWC. The Purple and White has an all-time record of 2-1 against SDSU.
Centenary will travel to Fort Worth after a home dual meet with Henderson State on Friday. Last spring, TCU set 11 new Centenary Fitness Center records as both teams cruised to victory. Centenary's Ladies are currently 4-1 and recently finished 2nd at the Tunica Invitational against Arkansas-Little Rock, Missouri State, Delta State and Rhodes College.
