FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU volleyball team hits the road for the third straight weekend as they head north to Minneapolis, Minn. to take part in the Gopher Invitational. The Horned Frogs open tournament play on Friday night against No. 8 Minnesota at 7:30 p.m.Series History: Frogs vs. Gophers
The Frogs and the Gophers have met twice on the volleyball court, once in Fort Worth and another time at a neutral site. Friday will mark the Frogs first visit to Minnesota's home court. The Gophers have come away with victories in both previous meetings.
Series History: Frogs vs. Tar Heels
Saturday morning's 10 a.m. meeting with North Carolina will mark the first-ever meeting between the schools.
Series History: Frogs vs. Eagles
TCU has faced off against Winthrop one other time in school history and come up on the wrong end of a five-game set. Winthrop came to TCU as part of a tournament field.
A New Leader
A record four-years in the making has finally arrived. With an assist on a Kourtney Edwards kill against New Orleans, Nirelle Hampton finally reached the top of the career assists chart. The new mark continues to grow and stands at 4,249.
Strong Contributions
The new faces have been huge contributors in the Frogs great start to the season. As a group, they have tallied 107 kills, 20 aces, 126 digs and 15 blocks. They are averaging 2.81 kills per game and have an attack percentage of .246.
Double The Fun
Three Horned Frogs notched their first double-doubles of the weekend, while Lauren Otto added two to her resume. Christy Hudson picked up one against Texas Tech as did Nirelle Hampton. Kourtney Edwards tallied a double-double against New Orleans.
Block Party TCU Style
The 2008 volleyball squad features a trio of blocking specialists. Kourtney Edwards, Devon Kirk and Nirelle Hampton can all be found in the top 10 career chart for blocks. While Edwards debutted last season on the chart, Hampton and Kirk each broke into the top 10 this past weekend in Lubbock.
Going The Distance
Four times this season the Horned Frogs have taken a match to five sets and they came away victorious in all four, giving them eight straight wins when going the distance. In the last three seasons, TCU is 15-4 in matches that go five sets. Under Coach Lewis, the Frogs are 27-11 and in program history, they are 43-26.
