TCU junior distance runner Dani Selner sat down with GoFrogs.com this week and gave fans an inside look into the fall cross country season. This is the first installment of Selner's weekly journal.
Selner's First Journal
Nineteen points. Nineteen points. Not a bad way to start the season, right? It's only the second meet of the season and it seems like we've already had a lot of improvement from our first meet at Baylor. Our one to five gap (from the first runner to the last scoring runner number five) was only a little over twenty seconds. To top it off, Tanja was able to get her first and well-deserved win of her collegiate cross country career. If you can't tell yet, we were very happy with how last weekend went. The North Texas meet was really a good way to cap off our month-long hiatus until The Cowboy Jamboree in Oklahoma in October.
Until then, we'll continue to train hard by adding more challenging workouts like intervals and hills. We have not started that point in our training yet and should see much more improvement come October. If we can stay healthy and motivated this coming month should be a time for some solid training time for us all. Just enough time to focus on school for a bit and get some rest.
It's really an exciting time to be a Horned Frog. Seeing my teammates around me in a tough race makes me excited to compete. We have a very refreshing team that has great enthusiasm that comes out in practice and not to mention at the meet this past weekend. I can't put it in complete words, but come to a meet and see a team go 1-3-4-5-6 and tell me there isn't something there.
That's it for this week. I'll keep everyone updated on how the next month is going.
