Sibling Rivalry
The Horned Frog volleyball squad has taken the family idea to a new level this season. The roster features two sets of sisters. Kristen Hester joins her older sister Irene this season and Nirelle Hampton, the younger sister of assistant coach Linda Hampton, will wrap up her collegiate career this season.
A Quick Glance
Speaking of Hampton, she has two career records within her grasp. She needs just two aces to be the all-time leader and she also sits just 216 assists away from taking the top spot on that list. She will also crack the top 10 in digs and blocks this season.
Lots Of New Faces
Joining seven returners are seven fresh faces this season. The Frogs welcome seven talented newcomers in Hannah Fort, Kylie Pont, Kristen Hester, Victoria Hernandez, Megan Munce, Jess Menden and Sarah Joeckel.
A Quick Climber
In just two seasons of action, Kourtney Edwards is already climbing the career charts for blocks. She finished the season in sole possession of sixth place on the list with 272. She has racked up at least 100 blocks in each of her two seasons and finished with 152 this season. She also led the way with 28 solo blocks in 2008.
A Sign?
Irene Hester had an outstanding season debut in the Alumni game this past weekend. She led all hitters with 17 kills in the four-set match. As a freshman, she averaged 1.79 kills per game and totaled 152 on the season.
Streaking!
A couple of Horned Frog have impressive games played streaks heading into this season. Nirelle Hampton has played in every match in her career which spans 100 matches. She is on pace to hold the record if she plays in all 32 matches. With a game played on Friday, Kourtney Edwards will crack the top 10 with 67 consecutive matches played.
Road Warriors
The Horned Frogs will log a lot of miles this season as they play 20 of their 32 matches away from Fort Worth. All added up the Frogs will log approximately 15,399 travel miles this season.
The Frogs On TV
TCU will make three appearances on national television this season. The Frogs Oct. 23 home match against San Diego State will air on The Mtn. The Oct. 31 match at BYU will be on BYU-TV. The TV schedule finishes up on Nov. 2 at Utah on CBS-College Sports.
