FORT WORTH, Texas - With preseason camp ready to begin next Monday, GoFrogs.com recently sat down with sophomore distance runner Tanja Ivandic to get her thoughts on the upcoming season.
How was your summer?
"It was really fun and I visited a lot of family. I went home to Bosnia for a little bit and did some training. It was different and I missed it a lot, but was a good time to go back."
What do you expect this fall?
"I definitely expect us to be a lot better. I have seen a lot more effort put into training this summer then last summer and that will help us. This year we should be more consistent and closer together during competition. Ashley Millerick has put a good two months into training and that is huge for us. Everyone from the new girls on down has trained really well this summer."
Being a sophomore, how does that help you this season?
"It helps so much and I am ready and excited about the year because of it. I am mentally ready to attack some of the courses because now I know them. This year with experience I will be able to do my thing and not stay back in the pack, but push ahead."
What do you expect next week?
"Ashley Millerick has stepped up a lot this summer and is going to surprise some people next week. She is at least a half a minute faster. Overall, I am really excited about the first week. With the new girls coming in, I think we will be more motivated this year."
How did Coach Winget help you last fall?
"Coach Winget is always so positive and he really makes the moments very light if we are stressed out about school or anything else. I know that I am faster then I was last year and I think he is the reason because of it. His training techniques are very balanced."
You talked about Bosnia, what was your favorite part?
"I would have to say the beach, but it was just a good time to see family and friends. Nobody really runs, so I would just tag along with a group of kids and run. It is so laid back and calm. It was nice."
If you could be on one television show, what would it be and why?
"It would probably be MTV Road Rules because I think I could beat all of them. I always get so excited."
What is you favorite movie?
"I like a lot of Denzel Washington movies. I really don't have a favorite, but I liked Superbad."
