TCU Equestrian senior, Carrie von Uhlit, reminisces about being part of a 2008 Western National Championship squad and explains what she's looking forward to in the upcoming season.
On winning the 2008 Varsity Equestrian Western National Championship:
"Winning the national championship felt unbelievable. As much as we had practiced and prepared for it, actually winning it was still a bit of a shock. Considering that it was only our second year of competition and all of the struggles we overcame, it was amazing."
On her favorite moment in winning the Championship:
"My favorite moment was when I heard the announcer say who took second place because it meant we had won. We were not sure if we had won or not because it came down to the raw score, which was very close. But when I heard them say Georgia took second, I knew it was real."
On her hopes for the 2008-09 season:
"I'm looking forward to getting a new group of team members that are as seasoned and prepared as last year's team. With the loss of some very competitive and fierce riders from last year, it's going to be a challenge. But I believe that the new team members will greatly benefit the returning members."
On her expectations going into her senior season:
"I would like to see both the Western and English team qualify for the Championships. With this, I think we have a real shot at going for the overall national championship. Now that our hunt seat team has many talented members, both returning and recruited, we have a very good chance at reaching this goal."
On events she's competed in this summer:
"I have shown my new reiner at the Texas Classic and the Red Bud Spectacular and have qualified him for the 2008 AQHA World Championship Show in November. I have also shown my reiner from last year at some west coast shows and have qualified him for the 2008 World Championships."
On her typical summer day:
"I ride a lot of horses and practice for horse shows. I try to practice as much as possible to be as prepared as I can be for competition."
On her life outside outside of the horse world:
"I like to go tubing on the lake with friends, going to concerts, and of course shopping."
