FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU senior Joe Brown has been named to the first team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI men's track and field & cross country team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
"Having Joe qualify for nationals is a culmination of four years of hard work. As a competitor, he is superb and we are excited to see what he will do at the NCAA meet," said throws coach John Kenneson. "This award is just one of many he has received throughout the year. Overall, Joe has worked very hard both on and off the track and we are pleased with his academic and athletic accomplishments."
A native of Overland Park, Kan., Brown graduated from TCU this past May with a GPA of 3.67 in marketing and management. Browns' selection to the All-District VI Team places him on the national ballot to earn Academic All-America honors.
Brown will compete next week at nationals in the men's javelin in Des Moines, Iowa. He qualified for the NCAA Championships last Friday by crushing his own school record in the men's javelin to lead TCU on the first day of competition at the NCAA Midwest Regional. Brown, who will be competing at nationals for the first time, recorded a fifth-place finish and automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships by tossing the javelin 224 feet to break his previous school record of 222 feet, 5 inches set in 2006.
TCU will next be in action at the NCAA Championships on June 11-14 in Des Moines, Iowa.
