FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU equestrian team has announced its schedule dates for the upcoming 2008-09 season, with match times to be announced at a later date.
"We have the best schedule we could possibly put together, lots of great teams will be coming to TCU. There isn't pressure coming off a National Championship because we will be a new team and it will be a new season. Our toughest competition will always be ourselves, we are the only ones that can beat ourselves," said head coach Gary Reynolds.
The defending Western National Champion Horned Frogs will compete in six events in the fall, including a tournament hosted by Baylor. Spring competition will bring three home matches, a tournament hosted by Fresno State and the Varsity Equestrian National Championships where TCU will look to defend its title.
The Frogs enter the third season in program history when they scrimmage against Texas Tech and West Texas A&M on Sept. 19.
The following weekend TCU heads to Waco where they will compete in the Baylor Tournament on Sept. 27. TCU went 2-1 versus Baylor last season, with a win over the Bears in the quarterfinals of the National Championships to advance to the semi-finals in the Western bracket.
TCU returns home to play host to South Carolina on Oct. 26. Last season, the Frogs fell to the Gamecocks in an early season loss. Senior Chloe Baker picked up her first MVP of the season in the Reining event.
Other fall schedule highlights include a home match against Delaware State on Nov. 9 and an away match against Texas A&M Nov. 15. The Frogs will also face the Bulldogs of rival Georgia Nov. 22. TCU defeated the Bulldogs in the Western National Championship last year, thus finishing the 2007-08 season with a 15-0 record.
After a three-month break from competition, the Frogs return to action at home against Sacred Heart Feb. 7 as it will be the first-ever meeting between the two teams.
TCU then heads to California to compete in the Best of the West tournament Feb. 14-15. The Frogs lost to the host team, Fresno State, in the finals of the tournament last season but quickly redeemed themselves with a home victory just five days later.
The Frogs will finish the regular season in Mansfield with a two-game home stand. They face the Aggies of New Mexico State Feb. 28 and Oklahoma State March 8.
The National Championship will be held in Waco April 17-18, giving the Frogs almost six weeks to rest up for the chance to defend their Western National Championship title.
TCU will be led by seniors Baker, Carrie von Uhlit and Emma Carl. The Frogs also welcome six incoming recruits this season.
