AUSTIN, Texas - TCU's Sean Zurko placed third overall in the men's 800 meters to lead the Flyin' Frogs on the first day of the 81st annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays."I thought we had a productive day," said distance coach Shawn Winget. "Sean got boxed in a little bit in his race which hindered him from having a faster time, but fought through it and did well. We just have to continue to get better everyday."
Zurko, a freshman from Las Vegas, crossed the finish line in 1:51.07 to clock a third-place finish. Utep's Aggrey Chirchir won the event with a time of 1:50.54.
Fellow freshman Jeff Pels followed in 18th-place with a personal best time of 1:55.02.
In section B of the women's 1,500 meters, freshman Tanja Ivandic and junior Ashley Millerick placed eighth and ninth overall, respectively, to lead the Purple and White.
TCU will continue competition at the Texas Relays on Thursday. Live results and video will be available on www.gofrogs.com.
