BRYAN, Texas -- The 24th-ranked TCU women's golf team opens play Friday at the Texas A&M "Mo"morial at Traditions Golf Club in Bryan.
First-round action begins at 8 a.m. Live scoring for the 54-hole event is available at www.golfstat.com.
The Horned Frogs are playing in the "Mo"morial for the sixth time in the last seven years. The tournament is named for former Texas A&M standout Monica Welsh, who died in an automobile accident in 1992.
In addition to TCU and the host No. 25 Aggies, the 15-team field includes No. 11 Denver, No. 12 Kent State, No. 27 Michigan State, No. 39 Nebraska, No. 41 Missouri, No. 42 Oklahoma and No. 47 Iowa State, along with Baylor, Mississippi, Northwestern, Princeton, SMU and UTEP.
TCU sophomore Valentine Derrey, named earlier this week as the Mountain West Conference Women's Golfer of the Month for the third time this season, headlines a list of individuals that include 11 of the nation's top 100 players.
Derrey tops the MWC while ranking seventh nationally with a 72.6 stroke average. The Paris, France, native has posted four consecutive top-10 finishes.
Joining Derrey in the TCU lineup will be fellow sophomore Megan O'Donnell, freshmen Prisela Campbell and Melissa Loh, and senior Carrie Morris.
In their last tournament, the Frogs tied for third out of 18 teams at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. In final-round action, Morris and Loh posted career-low scores of 70 and 72, respectively.
Morris is sixth in the MWC with a 75.8 stroke average, while Campbell ranks ninth at 76.1. TCU is the lone team to place three individuals in the MWC top 10.
The Frogs have three top-10 results in their five tournaments this season.
