
TCU honors athletes of the week

FORT WORTH -- Men's basketball player Brent Hackett and track and field's Neidra Covington are TCU's Male and Female Athletes of the Week, the athletics department announced on Wednesday. The men's 4x400 relay team of Che Chavez, Dell Guy, Clemore Henry and Mathew Love received the Gulliver's Road Warrior of the Week Award.Hackett scored a career-high 26 points against UNLV in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Tournament. The senior guard from Fort Worth, Texas connected on 6-of-8 three-point field goal attempts and finished the game hitting 8-of-13 attempts from the field. Hackett helped the Horned Frogs connect on a Mountain West Conference record 17 three-pointers hitting on 73.9 percent (17-of-23) of their field goal tries. He connected on a three-pointer with 30 seconds remaining to give TCU a two-point advantage at 87-85.
Covington, a sophomore from St. Petersburg, Fla., earned All-America honors in both the triple and long jump at the NCAA Championships. She soared 6.22m (20-05.00) to place ninth overall in the long jump at the NCAA's. Covington followed by leaping 13.04m (42-09.50) in the women's triple jump to finish eighth in her flight and 14th overall in Fayetteville, Ark.
The men's 4x400 relay team recorded All-America honors after earning a runner-up finish in the event by clocking a season-best time of 3:06.19 seconds. The quartet just missed being crowned National Champions as Baylor won the event by posting a time of 3:05.66.
