
TCU honors athletes of the week

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Men's tennis student-athlete Zach Nichols and women's basketball player Micah Garoutte are TCU's Male and Female Athletes of the Week. The Gulliver's Travel Road Warrior of the Week award has been given to Emily Paper of women's rifle.Nichols went 10-0 overall last week to help TCU improve to 7-0 on the season. The freshman from Austin, Texas, won five singles matches at Nos. 3-5 to remain undefeated this season. Nichols partnered with Jack Seider to win five doubles matches to improve to 7-0 overall.
Garoutte, a freshman basketball forward, posted her first two career double-figure scoring games with 14 points each at home against BYU Wednesday and Saturday at San Diego State. She led TCU with 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting in 24 minutes against BYU. Garoutte, from Plano, Texas, scored 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting and pulled down a career-best seven rebounds at San Diego State. She shot 61.9 percent for the week.
Paper finished second overall to help lead the Frogs to their fifth straight victory. The sophomore from Pleasant Valley, Iowa, posted an aggregate score of 1164 in the meet. Paper placed third overall in Air Rifle with a score of 586. She also earned a second-place finish in smallbore with a 578.
