GoFrogs.com recently sat down with Flyin' Frog head coach Darryl Anderson to get his thoughts on preseason workouts entering Thanksgiving break. Also in this week's edition of Anderson's weekly breakdown, fans can get an exclusive holiday look as women's thrower Candis Kelley bench presses 300 pounds.
Breakdown
The last couple of weeks have been great. We have been doing a lot of testing throughout the past few weeks to put the stamp on our fall training and I think we've been able to do that.
We tested at distances for the quarter milers ranging from 500 meters to 300 meters and the guys have run 450 meters in the 47 seconds range, so its been good. Dell Guy and Matthew Love did extremely well, while Jordan Pitts was right there in hot pursuit, so it was another good test for those guys.
The short sprinters have done 300's and Mychal Dungey was like 33 flat, while Andon Mitchell was right behind him, so everything is starting to take shape. Really, all the guys were right there and that's what you like to see.
On the ladies side, they went through the quarter on the way to 450 and ran 55 seconds, so that went extremely well. Jessica Clarke and Kishelle Paul led that, but the good part is that the worst girl out there ran 55 seconds at the quarter and that is a pretty good test. Overall, I was quite pleased with our performance from top-to-bottom.
The short sprinters have done some flyin' 30's and those times have come back really well, so I have been really pleased on where everything has gone. We wrap up here Dec. 1 and I am excited about the possibilities that exist. We have had a couple of people that have stepped up over the last few weeks and we are happy about that. They have kind of pulled themselves together, which has been nice to see. Jessica Young and the rest of the group were 38 flat, so we've had some good testing throughout the fall.
For the most part, we are ready to start racing people and that is where we are at entering this break. The next improvements are going to come about because of competition. I could compare this fall favorably to the teams that have had a great deal success, which is good. Like I said, the next step for us it to get through these breaks without losing a relative amount of fitness because that's when the fun starts and we can start racing people.
My mom, dad and brother flew in from Cleveland, Ohio, a couple of days ago for Thanksgiving. I am going to show them around TCU and Fort Worth because it will be my dad and brother's first time out here. I am looking forward to it and am excited about it because it is going to be a lot of fun to have them around. For everybody out there that reads this, I hope that you all have a super and safe Thanksgiving Thursday. We'll get back to talking about track and field when we get back.
Happy Thanksgiving
Darryl
