The TCU men's and women's swimming teams will kick off the 2008-09 season on Friday at the North Texas Relays at the Keller ISD Natatorium in Keller, Texas, at 6 p.m. The meet will consist of 10 different relay events against Houston, Missouri State, North Texas and SMU. Last season, the women's squad opened the season with the same meet, finishing third.
The Horned Frogs return four senior swimmers with Jason Hauck on the men's side, alongside Sarah Bardwell, Katie Rosen and Cheryl Townsend for the women. TCU lost seven seniors from last season, but has high hopes for the incoming freshmen class. Junior Josh Bagby is the only swimmer back from the Frogs' record-setting 200- and 400-yard freestyle relay teams from a year ago, while junior Stephanie Futscher returns after leading the women's with seven event wins in 2007-08. Three-time record holder Maria Paula Alvarez also returns to the pool after earning six event wins in as many meets last spring.
The meet will began with the 300-fly relay, followed by the 300-back relay, 300-breast relay and 800-free relay. After a 15-minute break, the swimmers will compete in the 500-free relay, 400-medley relay, 200-free relay and 1500-free relay. After another 15-minute intermission, the swimmers will cap off the event with the 400-IM relay and 400-free relay.
TCU will host Missouri State for the first home meet of the season Saturday, Oct. 4, at the University Rec Center at 10:30 a.m.
