POSITION BREAKDOWN: Quarterbacks
8/9/2007 12:00:00 AM | Football
With the graduation of Jeff Ballard, TCU's career leader in winning percentage (.905, 19-2) and completion percentage (61.1), the quarterback position provides one of the more intriguing competitions in preseason camp. Sophomore Marcus Jackson (6-1, 216, So.) and redshirt freshman Andy Dalton (6-3, 210, RFr.) are battling for the first-team job. Jackson had an impressive collegiate debut in last year's season-opening 17-7 win at Baylor. Jackson entered the game and completed 11-of-13 passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns to rally TCU to victory. For his efforts against Baylor, Jackson was named the Mountain West Conference Offensive Player of the Week. A native of Houston, Jackson completed 59.1 percent (26-of-44) of his pass attempts on the year for 386 yards with two touchdowns and one interception. Dalton redshirted as a true freshman in 2006. While serving as TCU's emergency No. 3 quarterback, he was part of the Frogs' travel squad to conference road games. Providing depth behind Jackson and Dalton at quarterback is redshirt freshman Zack Eskridge (6-3, 195, RFr.) from Rockwall, Texas.
