GoFrogs.com recently caught up with Kindel Huffman as she wraps up her summer vacation, with school and team activities starting in less than a month. In the program's first season, Huffman competed in both the English and Western divisions. She was a member of TCU's team that qualified for the National Championship in the Western divsion. This season Huffman looks to make a full time return to the English division.
GoFrogs.com: What was your most memorable moment from TCU's inaugural season?
Kindel Huffman: I loved going to the Fresno, California game. It was our first road trip for the team and we had the most fun any team could have had. We grew tremendously, learned a lot about each other, and had a blast. Words can't explain what a great trip it was for the team.
GF: How did you feel when you found out you had the top score out of 32 riders in the horsemanship event at Nationals?
KH: I was extremely excited and honored to have the top score. I was even more excited to tie my teammate, Carrie, because she is an amazing rider.
GF: What have you been up to this summer?
KH: This summer I have been working full time at Nordstrom, as an intern. I have also been taking two summer school classes in order to ride on the team this year.
GF: What do you like to do when away from the stables?
KH: I definitely love to spend time with friends and family. Being with those I love and care about makes me happy.
GF: Why did you choose TCU?
KH: I chose TCU because I heard it was a great school. I was also interested in their Fashion Merchandising program, which I am minoring in. Also, I knew TCU was starting an equestrian team, so that made me interested as well.
GF: Which events do you like more, the English or Western?
KH: I enjoy the western events more because I get to dress up really cute and go fast.
GF: What was more memorable, winning the first game against Auburn or competing at the National Championship?
KH: Competing at the National Championships was more memorable because we were among all teams. It was exciting to have our first win, but I knew that would come eventually with all our hard work.
GF: Do you follow any of the other TCU teams on campus? If so which is your favorite?
KH: I love to attend all the football games, who doesn't?
GF: Describe a typical day during the summer for Kindel Huffman?
KH: I get up around 5:00 a.m. and am at work by 7:00 a.m. I assist customers all day at Nordstrom, and usually don't take lunch until 2:00pm. After I get off work at 4:00 p.m., I usually ride, finish my homework and then go to sleep and do it all over the next day.
GF: If you could ride around the trails with any two other people of your choosing, dead or alive, who would you choose and why?
KH: I would only choose one person and that would be my father, who passed away six years ago. He taught me how to ride and show horses, so if I could ride with anyone it would be him.
