
Chad Huffman promoted to Double A San Antonio

FORT WORTH, Texas - In just his first full season of professional baseball, former Horned Frog standout Chad Huffman has been promoted to the San Diego Padres Double-A club in San Antonio. Huffman was the first Frog selected in the 2006 MLB Draft with the 53rd overall pick by the Padres. He opened the season at High-A Lake Elsinore in California.In 84 games with the Storm this season, Huffman was hitting .307 with 15 home runs and 76 RBIs. He posted an on-base percentage of .402 to go along with a .522 slugging percentage. He was named to the Cal League Mid-Season All-Star team.
Elsewhere around the minor leagues, former Horned Frogs are excelling as well. Currently there are four Frogs in Triple A, another in Double A, two in Advanced A ball, four in Low A and two in short season.
Scott Atchison (1995-99) has a 2-2 record in 30 games with the Fresno Grizzlies, the top affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. He has posted an ERA of 2.11 with 42 strike outs in 42 2/3 innings pitched.
Lance Broadway (2005) opened his second full season in pro ball with the Triple A club of the Chicago White Sox, Charlotte. He is 5-5 on the year in 17 starts with a 3.94 ERA. In 93 2/3 innings pitched, Broadway has fanned 52 batters.
In his first season in the Padres organization, Royce Huffman (1996-99) began the campaign in Triple A with the Portland Beavers. Joining him in Oregon is another former Frog, Justin Hatcher (2002-03). Huffman is hitting .267 in 84 games with six home runs and 37 RBI, while Hatcher has appeared in just four games after being called up from Double A San Antonio.
Eugene Espineli (2004) is in his second season with the Giants Double A club, the Connecticut Defenders. He owns a 5-5 record in 19 appearances. In 79 2/3 innings, the left-hander has punched out 65 batters.
Jake Duncan (2002-03) opened the season with the Frederick Keys, the Advanced A club of the Baltimore Orioles. He has appeared in 58 games and is hitting .251 with two homers and 24 RBIs.
With a fresh contract under his belt, the Frogs first draft pick of 2007, Sam Demel (2005-07), made his professional debut with the Stockton Ports, Oakland's Advanced A club. He has appeared in four games and has tossed 4 1/3 innings.
Two Horned Frogs, Stuart Musslewhite (2005) and Brent Allar (2006), appear on the Delmarva Shorebirds roster, the Class A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. Battling an injury this season, Musslewhite has appeared in 58 games this season and has 13 RBIs. Allar has appeared in three games with the Shorebirds after getting called up from Aberdeen. He has one save in 2 2/3 innings pitched.
Shawn Ferguson (2005-06) has made eight appearances with the West Virginia Power, an affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. He is 0-1 with a 2.81 ERA in 25 2/3 innings pitched.
Brad Furnish?(2005-06) opened the season with the Swing of the Quad Cities, the Low A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals, and has posted a 2-3 record in 20 appearances. In 75 2/3 innings, the lefty has fanned 72 batters and is limiting hitters to a .197 batting average.
Also making their professional debuts this summer are Andrew Walker (2005-07) and Keith Conlon (2005-07). Walker began his minor league career at short season State College, an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates. He is hitting .346 through his first seven games. Conlon was sent to the Eugene Emeralds, the Padres short season squad. He has five RBIs in his first 12 professional games.
