
McDaniel advances in 200 at USATF Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - TCU junior sprinter Otis McDaniel punched his ticket to the 200-meter semifinals at the 2007 AT&T USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at the IU Michael A. Carroll Track and Soccer Stadium on the IUPUI campus.
A junior from San Antonio, Texas, McDaniel clocked a time of 21.276 in the first round and finished sixth in the fourth heat en route to advancing to Sunday's semifinal, which will take place at 11 a.m. CT.
McDaniel's time of 21.276 placed him 18th overall. Tyson Gay, who won the 100 meters on Friday, had the top qualifying time on Saturday with a mark of 20.66.
McDaniel, who redshirted during the 2007 NCAA season, won the 100 and 200 meters at the Mountain West Conference Outdoor Championships and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships in both events in 2006.
If McDaniel advances through the semifinals, he will run in the event final at 1:20 p.m. CT. Also competing on Sunday for TCU will be junior Jonathan Jackson in the triple jump. Jackson will begin competition in the triple jump at 11:30 p.m. CT.
Sunday's competition will be televised live on NBC from 12 - 2 p.m. CT.
