FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU junior reliever Sam Demel has been named Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance last week. The junior is the third Horned Frog to be honored by the league this season. It is the second honor of his career.Demel, a Spring, Texas, native, went 1-0 with two saves in three relief appearances for TCU last week. He retired 15 of the 20 batters that he faced, striking out six, while scattering two hits and walking two in 5.0 innings of work. Against Texas Tech, Demel pitched a scoreless eighth inning before allowing the first two batters on base in the ninth. He worked himself out of a jam to tally the save in TCU's 8-6 victory. In game one vs. San Diego State, he picked up the win after pitching a perfect top of the 10th inning to keep the Aztecs scoreless, while the Horned Frogs scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the frame. In game two vs. SDSU, after a perfect eighth, Demel gave up two hits to open the ninth before striking out two straight batters and getting the third to ground out for his second save of the week and career-best eighth of the season.
