ARLINGTON, Texas - After opening the 2007 outdoor season by posting 12 NCAA regional qualifying marks at the Horned Frog Invitational, the TCU track & field team will stay in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex for the second week in a row as they continue the outdoor season at the UTA/Bobby Lane Invitational on Saturday at Maverick Stadium.
"This is a tune-up for us and will give us a chance to get our 4x100 relay exchanges in a live battle and pass the stick better than we did this past weekend," head coach Darryl Anderson said. "We just want to let everybody continue to get races in. That is kind of where we are in the early stage of the season. We use our competition as parts of our training. We want to go in and get some high-intensity running through our races."
Saturday's meet marks the second of six straight weeks with a meet leading up to a week off prior to the Mountain West Conference Championships to be held May 10-12 in San Diego, Calif.
Also competing in the meet are Angelo State, Arkansas (men only), Dallas Baptist, DePaul, Emporia State, Louisiana-Monroe, McMurry, Minnesota, Northwood, North Dakota, North Dakota State, North Texas, Northwestern State, SMU, Southwest Christian, Tarleton State, Texas A&M-Commerce, Texas State, UT Arlington.
The meet will begin with field events starting at 9 a.m. The first event on the track is the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase at 1 p.m.
TCU enters Saturday's meet after opening the outdoor season with 16 first-place finishes at the inaugural Horned Frog Invitational.
Individually, senior Delwayne Delaney was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Track and Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday after earning two NCAA regional qualifying marks. Delaney earned the marks by finishing second with a career-best time of 10.29 in the 100 and as a member of the 4x100 relay team that placed second with a time of 40.13.
Last season at the Bobby Lane Invitational, TCU turned in 15 regional qualifying marks and collected six gold medals.
