COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Jonathon Berrettini was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week on Thursday, while Kyle Callens was named the MWC Men's Diver of the Week after the two led the men to a third-place finish at the Las Vegas Invite last weekend.
Berrettini earned his second MWC weekly award of the year after posting three top-three finishes, including a win in the 100-back, at the Las Vegas Invite last weekend. Berrettini also competed on relay teams that posted four top-three finishes, including two victories.
A native of Lewisville, Texas, Berrettini led off the weekend by placing third out of 131 competitors in the 50-free with a time of 20.69. The following day, Berrettini took the top spot in the 100-back with a time of 48.89, which places third in TCU history behind Berrettini's top two marks. Berrettini ended the meet with a third-place showing in the 100-free out of 102 participants with a time of 45.32.
Berrettini also found success in the relay events in Las Vegas. The TCU senior contributed to two relay wins in the 200-free relay (1:22.24) and 200-medley relay (1:31.11), while placing second in the 400-free relay (3:02.29) and third in the 400-medley relay (3:23.80).
Callens, a freshman from Deer Park, Texas, recorded two runner-up finishes to help lead the men's squad to a third-place showing.
Callens led the TCU divers on Saturday by placing second in the one-meter out of 22 competitors with a score of 257.55. Callens followed the next day with a runner-up finish behind fellow Frog R.J. Hesselberg to complete the sweep in the three-meter event with a score of 259.20, nearly 26 points ahead of the next diver.
The weekly honor is the first of Callens career and the seventh consecutive award for the TCU men's diving team, who has claimed the honor every week this season. Prior to this week, R.J. Hesselberg had earned six consecutive awards.
The TCU women's team will return to action on Jan. 4 at San Diego State, while both squads will compete on Jan. 10 at BYU.
