
Kigen and Manly set for South Central Regional

FORT WORTH, Texas- TCU distance runner's Matt Manly and Festus Kigen will represent the Horned Frogs at the 2007 NCAA South Central Regional Championships this Saturday in Fayetteville, Ark.
The men's race, which is set to begin at 10 a.m., will be run at Agri Park in Fayetteville.
The top two teams and four individuals from each of the nine regional championships automatically will qualify for the NCAA Championships, while on Nov. 11, 13 at-large teams will be added to the national championship field by the NCAA Division I Track and Field Committee. In addition, two at-large individuals that are not on an automatic qualifying team will receive automatic bids to the NCAA Championships.
Kigen, a sophomore from Kenya, comes into this weekend having finished 15th overall at the Mountain West Cross Country Championships two weeks ago. He has had a successful sophomore campaign, earning Mountain West Conference Athlete of the Week following a fifth-place finish at the Texas A&M Invitational on Sept. 22. Overall, Kigen, who has posted a season best time of 24:34:00 in the 8K, finished first overall at the North Texas Invitational on Sept. 15, while turning in back-to-back top-10 performances at the Cowboy Jamboree and Chili Pepper Festival, respectively this fall.
Manly heads to Fayetteville following a solid showing at the MWC Cross Country Championships where he posted a time of 27:29.00 in Albuquerque, N.M. Overall during his senior season, Manly placed ninth overall at the Texas A&M Invite with a season best time of 24:55.00 on Sept. 22, while also turning in a sixth-place finish at the North Texas Invite.
Last fall, both Kigen and Manly competed at the South Central Regional in Waco. Overall, Kigen placed 23rd with a time of 31:20.0. in the 10K, while Manly set a personal record in the 10K with a time of 31:47.5 to finish 32nd overall.
