FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The TCU track and field team will begin its 2007 campaign on Friday by opening the indoor season at the Arkansas Invitational.
"Obviously, we are excited to get the season started," head coach Darryl Anderson said. "We have finished up fall training and it went fairly well and now we are coming off Christmas where some of the kids weren't able to work out like they are used to, so it will take some time to get back. It is going to be good to be able to get the team on the road and begin competition."
The Arkansas Invitational will begin with the men's shot put at 12 p.m. and will be held at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the University of Arkansas campus. TCU's trip to Fayetteville, Ark., will mark the first of at least four trips during the indoor season. Friday's meet will give TCU an opportunity to compete at the site of the 2006 NCAA Indoor Championships which will also be held at the Randal Tyson Track Center March 9-10. In total, five of TCU's eight indoor meets will be held at Arkansas if the Flyin' Frogs qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Competing against the Flyin' Frogs will be a stiff competition that includes the likes of Arkansas, Baylor, Houston, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, UTA and a few additional teams.
TCU returns nine All-Americans from a 2006 campaign that produced 13 All-Americans, 13 school records and Jackson Langat's NCAA title in the 800 meters. The 2007 season will also mark the second season in the Mountain West Conference after TCU posted third-place finishes in both the men's and women's indoor and outdoor seasons.
Fans can follow live scoring of the Arkansas Invitational on TCU's website, www.gofrogs.com. Complete results will also be posted on the site at the conclusion of competition Friday night.
