TCU post-game notes vs. Baylor
Sept. 3, 2006
TCU opened its season with a Big 12 opponent for the second straight campaign. The Horned Frogs won 17-10 at Oklahoma exactly one year ago (Sept. 3, 2005).
In its last 13 games, TCU is 3-0 against Big 12 foes with victories over Oklahoma, Iowa State (27-24 EV1.net Houston Bowl win on Dec. 31, 2005) and Baylor.
Doak Walker Award candidate Aaron Brown led the Horned Frogs' offense with 156 total yards. He rushed for 49 yards on 15 carries and totaled a career-best and game-high 107 receiving yards on four catches.
Senior safety Marvin White established a new career-high with 14 tackles in the win. His previous recorded-high was 12 tackles at Army on Oct. 15, 2005.
Sophomore Detrick James had a career-best 38 rushing yards on a personal-best nine carries.
Nose tackle Jarrarcea Williams made his third career start. It was his first starting assignment since the final two games of the 2004 season.
Quentily Harmon's 96 receiving yards on five grabs surpasses his previous career-best of 87 yards at Texas Tech on Sept. 18, 2004.
Junior defensive end Tommy Blake logged his first career fumble recovery in the third quarter of the game.
Marcus Brock, who missed last season due to injury, had a first-quarter reception for his first catch since the 2004 campaign. On the final play of the quarter, he had a career-long 36-yard punt return.
TCU saw its streak of scoring in the first quarter snapped at nine games. The Frogs were held scoreless in the opening 15 minutes for the first time since Sept. 15, 2005 versus Utah.
TCU had scored first in eight consecutive games before Baylor snapped the streak with a 21-yard second quarter touchdown pass from Shawn Bell to Mikail Baker. The last time a TCU opponent scored first was BYU on Sept. 24, 2005.
Three true freshman recorded playing time for TCU: defensive ends Wayne Daniels and Jerry Hughes and offensive tackle Marshall Newhouse.
Donald Massey's 69-yard kickoff return to open the second half more than doubled his previous career-long of 33 set last year at San Diego State.
Chris Manfredini's third-quarter 27-yard field goal made him 14-of-14 in his TCU career and 24-of-25 as a collegian. He was 10-of-11 on field goals for Cincinnati in 2003.
Defensive end Chase Ortiz recorded his first career interception in the third quarter.
Marcus Jackson's 84-yard touchdown pass to Aaron Brown tied for the seventh-longest pass play in TCU history, equaling the distance on Jeff Ballard's scoring connection to Michael DePriest in the 2005 EV1.net Houston Bowl.
For the second straight season, a backup quarterback entered the game when the Frogs were trailing and led his team to victory. Ballard accomplished the feat against BYU on Sept. 24, 2005 when he entered the game with TCU down 41-29 and guided the Frogs to a 51-50 (OT) win.
Tight end Quentin Cunigan's fourth-quarter touchdown reception from Marcus Jackson represented his first career catch.
A total of 58 Horned Frogs appeared in the game versus Baylor.
