Morris makes bid for WTGA State Amateur title

TYLER, Texas -- TCU women's golfer Carrie Morris gave a strong effort before coming just short in her bid for the Women's Texas Golf Association State Amateur Championship, falling 5-and-4 in the finals to five-time champion and former LPGA Tour member Mina Hardin.In the early 1980s, Hardin was the first Mexican citizen to play on the LPGA Tour.
"It was a great tournament and Mina is definitely a great player," Morris said. "This definitely tests my game to see what level I'm at. I have definitely improved from this past year at collegiate tournaments. This will help me play much better going into my upcoming college season."
Morris was making only her second appearance at the WTGA Tournament. She won a pair of tough matches to advance to the finals.
A rising junior from Tyler, Morris beat 2004 champion Stacy Dennis in the quarterfinals, 1 up, in 19 holes. Morris overcame a three-hole deficit and clinched the win on the extra hole by making a nine-foot putt.
In the semifinals, Morris faced current Baylor golfer Sherry Summers. Morris, who also trailed in this match, pulled out a 1-up victory.
