
Arrieta named Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU sophomore right-handed pitcher Jake Arrieta was named Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week for his performance this past Thursday against New Mexico. For the Frogs this is their sixth conference honor of the season. It also marks the third time this season that Arrieta has earned a Pitcher of the Week honor.Arrieta, from Plano, Texas, pitched six shutout innings vs. New Mexico last Thursday, earning the victory in the Horned Frogs 15-2 game one win, which clinched the Mountain West Conference regular season title. Arrieta struck out three batters, while scattering only two hits and walking one in the six innings of work. He needed just 59 pitches to get 18 outs and faced one batter over the minimum. The sophomore has not allowed a run in his last 18 innings pitched spanning three appearances.
Three other Horned Frogs have been honored by the conference the season. TCU swept the Hitter and Pitcher of the Week honors on Feb. 13. Matt McGuirk was named Hitter of the Week and Jake Arrieta earned Pitcher of the Week honors. On Feb. 20, Brad Furnish was named Pitcher of the Week. Sam Demel was honored as the league's Pitcher of the Week on April 17. Arrieta's second honor came back on May 8.
