
Arrieta accepts invite from Team USA

FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU right-handed pitcher Jake Arrieta is one of the first 20 players to be invited to Team USA's National Team Trials which will be held at the end of June. The sophomore is 11-4 this season with a team-low 2.21 ERA. Head Coach Jim Schlossnagle will be an assistant coach on the Team USA staff this upcoming summer.Arrieta has twice been named Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week this season. In 89.2 innings pitched, he has racked up 94 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting just .226 off of him this season. He has most recently been put on the Roger Clemens Award Watch List, which will go to the nation's top pitcher.
"This is a great honor for Jake & our program," remarked Schlossnagle. "Wearing USA across your chest is a privilege and Jake has worked very hard and performed well to earn the invitation."
The trials will be held June 22-July 1 in exhibition games played against teams in the New England Collegiate League. The USA Baseball National Team will be selected from a pool of 36 players, of which an additional 16 have yet to be determined.
