
TCU women's golf earns postseason bid

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- TCU was selected Monday to compete in the 2006 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championships, marking its 11th consecutive appearance in the field.The Horned Frogs will begin play May 11 in the NCAA Central Regional at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas. Joining TCU in the regional field will be Baylor, Birmingham-Southern, Duke, Florida, Jackson State, Jacksonville State, Kent State, Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska, Northwestern, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Pepperdine, SMU, St. Francis (Pa.), Texas, Texas A&M, Tulsa and USC.
TCU competed earlier this spring at the Traditions Club, placing third out of 18 teams at the Texas A&M "Mo"Morial. The Frogs improved their score (318-309-308) each day of the tournament. TCU was led by Elin Emanuelsson's second-place individual finish. The junior from Nacka, Sweden, carded a 9-over-par 225. Fellow TCU juniors Camille Blackerby and Catherine Matranga both tied for 13th with 17-over 233s.
"We're real excited to be going back to the Traditions Club," TCU coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin said. "The girls were pulling for that site because we've had some success there.
"It's also nice to be able to drive to your NCAA Regional."
The Frogs were 19th at last year's NCAA Central Regional in Lubbock, Texas, after placing in the top 12 in their previous six regional appearances.
TCU, ranked 38th nationally, has six top-five finishes in its last eight tournaments.
Blackerby has a team-best 75.1 season stroke average with Matranga second at 75.5. Emanuelsson is third with a 76.4 mark.
