FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU football team practiced for the final time Thursday as it completed preparations for Saturday's 11 a.m. Spring Game in Amon Carter Stadium. The middle of practice was interrupted by a lightning delay which sent the Horned Frogs to the locker room for approximately 45 minutes.
"Today was divided by weather and wasn't the kind of emphasis I would have liked for the end of practice and our last one before the Spring Game," TCU football coach Gary Patterson said. "It will be nice when we have our indoor facility so we don't have to stop practice.
"We're still a little bit tired, but we fought through it and worked some more on Baylor and Texas Tech (TCU's season-opening opponents on Sept. 2 and 16, respectively). Those are big games for us early in the season and we'll probably go in as the underdog in both of them."
Patterson, the 2005 Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year and the only coach in TCU history to record three 10-win seasons, has a definite goal in mind with Saturday's Spring Game.
"I look forward to everybody staying healthy," Patterson said. "It's a fun game with the parents here.
"We also have our banquet that night and the run in the morning (a 5K Run/Walk with proceeds benefiting The Gary Patterson Foundation, a tax-exempt, non-profit organization assisting economically disadvantaged children as well as other charitable causes).
"The game is about seeing guys compete one last time. Sometimes, kids will play better or worse when there's a crowd in the stands. I'm excited to see what that's going to look like."
