SUNRIVER, Ore. - After winning the 2001 Western Athletic Conference title and each of the past four Conference USA men's golf championships, the TCU Horned Frogs will look to extend their school-record streak to six this week during the team's first-ever appearance at the Mountain West Conference Championships.
The three-day, 54-hole event is being played at the Sunriver Resort's Crosswater Course (7,630 yards, par 72), the site of next month's NCAA Championships. The first round will be played Thursday, with TCU teeing off beginning at 10:40 a.m. (PDT). In addition to No. 37 TCU, eighth-ranked UNLV, No. 9 BYU and 34th-rated New Mexico headline the nine-team field.
TCU will sport a young squad at the event, as only junior Drew Stoltz, who shared medalist honors at last year's C-USA Championships, has competed at a league championship. Stoltz will be joined in Oregon by senior Drew Laning, sophomore Franklin Corpening and true freshmen Jon McLean and Tom Miles.
The Horned Frogs have displayed balance throughout the season, as five different players have paced the team at tournaments. Corpening (73.38), McLean (73.41) and Laning (73.67) own the team's top scoring averages, and all three golfers have three top-20 finishes this season. Meanwhile, Miles (74.33) and Stoltz (75.46) also have picked up top-20 placements this season.
Live scoring of the event will be available on www.golfstat.com as well as www.themwc.com. The winner of the tournament receives an automatic berth into May's NCAA Regionals.
