
TCU announces 2005 award winners

FORT WORTH, Texas -- At its banquet Saturday night, the TCU football program announced its team award winners from the 2005 season.The G. Malcolm Louden Academic Achievement Award was the only honor selected by the TCU coaches. All the other awards were voted on by the Horned Frog players.

Defensive Most Valuable Players: Drew Coleman and Jeremy Modkins
Offensive Most Valuable Players: Jeff Ballard and Robert Merrill

Dan Rogers Most Valuable Player: Jeff Ballard
In being selected the Dan Rogers Most Valuable Player, Ballard posted an 8-0 record as the TCU starting quarterback.
With the Frogs trailing 34-16 at BYU late in the third quarter (Sept. 24), Ballard came off the bench to lead TCU to a 51-50 overtime win. The rally from an 18-point deficit represented the largest come-from-behind victory in Gary Patterson's five years as the Frogs' head coach.
Ballard completed 59.9 percent of his passes, just shy of Tim Schade's single-season school mark of 60.1 (1991). In his first collegiate start, a 49-28 victory over New Mexico (Oct. 1), Ballard ran for four scores and passed for two in tying LaDainian Tomlinson's TCU mark of accounting for six touchdowns.
Ballard threw for 1,801 yards and 13 touchdowns, while his 137.6 efficiency rating ranked among the national leaders. The Friendswood native's eight rushing touchdowns, representing a score every 9.3 carries, were second on the team.
