FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU football team completed its second day of spring practice with the Horned Frogs ready to don the pads Tuesday afternoon."We're in the middle of teaching and installing," TCU coach Gary Patterson said. "We have a lot of new and young players. There's a lot of learning going on right now.
"Tomorrow, we're going to put the pads on. You've got to be able to learn and teach and also be physical, so it will be fun."
TCU will practice Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. and take Wednesday off. The Frogs will then return to action Thursday at 3:45 p.m. for their final practice before Spring Break.
"There are so many things being taught," Patterson said. "We're just trying to install and get better."
In 2005, TCU showed the ability to win both close games as well as contests decided handily. Five of the Frogs' wins were by seven points or less (a total of 17 points). Dating back to the 2003 campaign, 18 of TCU's last 36 games have been decided by seven points or less. The Frogs are 15-3 in those contests, including 5-0 last year.
TCU's other six victories in 2005 were by a minimum of 14 points (169 points total). The Frogs' last eight wins came by an average of 21.9 points.
TCU opens the 2006 campaign Sept. 2 at Baylor. With a home game versus Texas Tech on Sept. 16, the Frogs will face four Big 12 opponents in a stretch of 14 games dating back to the start of last season. TCU was 2-0 versus the Big 12 in 2005.
