The team will shoot in two events, air rifle and smallbore, which both consist of 60-shot courses of fire. All 60 shots in air rifle will be shot from the standing position while the course for smallbore will be evenly divided into 20 shots from three different positions; standing, kneeling, and prone.
Juniors Nikki LeCompte and Emily Conway will join Gorin and Green on the competition team for air rifle. The smallbore unit will be comprised of Gorin, Green, LeCompte and freshman Kristine Tisinger. Also traveling with the team will be freshman Aida Garcia who will compete individually.
This season, Gorin and Green have combined to set the top-five scores in school history for both 60-shot air rifle and 60-shot smallbore. The duo will enter Sectionals competition at the top of their game, as they have both set new standards within the last two weeks. Gorin shot a school record 586 in air rifle at the UTEP Triangular on January 30 and Green set a new standard for smallbore with a 581 against Air Force on February 4.
Their presence has helped the team set the top-five school records in both events as well. The squad's best performance came at the UTEP Triangular, when it set new top marks for smallbore, air rifle and aggregate score.
The top seven schools in the nation will advance past the Sectionals to the NCAA Championships on March 11-12 at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. These seven teams will be determined based on an average of the three highest aggregate (smallbore and air rifle) regular season scores, with not more than one match at any given site. That average score will then be added to the score attained at the designated qualifier to determine the top seven teams.
Currently, the Frogs average score of 4551.0 ranks them 15th in the nation. Alaska-Fairbanks tops the list with a score of 4722.3. Last year, TCU ended the season ranked 34th in the country. The school's highest finish was 26th overall in 1998.
"Our goal this year is to finish the season in the top-15 nationally. I would be thrilled with that outcome," TCU head coach Karen Monez said. "This meet will give our team a chance to see just how far we have come within the last year."
"It all comes down to how well you shoot that one day, but both Celeste and Tanya have the ability to reach the NCAA Championships individually," Monez said.
