
Gomez wins bronze medal in South American Games

Buenos Aires, Argentina - Senior swimmer Alejandro Gomez received a bronze medal in the South American Games in the 400-free event Thursday. Gomez also recorded two NCAA "B" cut times in the 200- and 400-free events.
The Caracas, Venezuela, native slated times of 1:52.96 and 4:00.34 in the 200- and 400-free, respectively, to make the cut. Gomez also finished the 800-free in a time of 8:20.57 to place fifth.
Gomez has five event wins on the season for the Frogs, including three in the last two meets. At Air Force, Gomez won the 500-free in a time of 4:47.39, and swept the long distance events at Wyoming, recording times of 4:44.46 and 10:02.65 in the 500- and 1000-free, respectively.
A transfer from Indian River Community College, Gomez slated the fifth-fastest time in the 500-free in his first season with the Frogs last year, with a time of 4:29.04.
Gomez will participate in the 1500-free in the South American Games later Friday.
