
Two swimmers tabbed TCU Student-Athletes of the Week

FORT WORTH, Texas - Sophomore Maribeth Pottenger and senior Teylor Arboleda have been named TCU's Female and Male Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances in the first full week of 2006. It is the first time that either athlete has been honored as such by the university.
Pottenger, who hails from San Antonio, was a two-event winner Friday for the Horned Frogs during the team's 163-128 victory over Mountain West Conference foe San Diego State and 165-117 triumph over Loyola Marymount. She posted wins in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.75) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:20.88). Pottenger's time in the 200 was her best effort of the season and was just .4 seconds off her career-best swim.
The dual meet wins on Friday improved the Frogs' record to 9-1 overall and 4-1 in MWC competition. On Sunday, Pottenger helped the Frogs to the team title at the UC Irvine/Ayres Hotel & Suites Relay Invitational. At the five-team event, TCU bested second-place UC Irvine by 25 points and third-place San Diego State by 94.
Arboleda keyed the Horned Frog men, who set a pair of meet records at the 26th annual UCI Relay Invitational, The trio of Arboleda, George Gooch and Yousif Del Valle blazed through the 3x100 butterfly with a meet-record time of 2:34.24. TCU also broke the invitational mark in the 3x100 individual medley (2:40.24) courtesy of Aran Bean, Guillermo Ramirez and Arboleda, who swam the anchor. Arboleda, a communication major, is a native of Caracas, Venezuela.
The TCU swimming and diving programs have had six team members honored as TCU Student-Athletes of the Week so far this season.
