WACO, Texas - Senior standout Kip Kangogo and sophomore Steven Solazzo teamed up to place first at the Baylor Bear Relays on Friday night in Waco, officially giving the Horned Frogs the team victory at the season-opening cross country event. Fellow TCU runners Jackson Langat, a senior, and Matt Manly, a sophomore, placed third at the race.
Kangogo and Solazzo recorded a time of 37:41.2, which was tops among the collegiate teams competing. Manly and Langat finished with a time of 38:09.3 to place third. Two unattached runners had the fastest time in the event, but did not count in the official standings. The men's relay was a 12K race, with one partner running the first and third 3K legs, and the other taking the second and fourth legs.
Also for TCU, sophomores Cody Cook and J.T. Reinert placed 11th with a time of 40:03.5, while fellow sophs Houston Bolin and Brett McKnight were two spots behind with a time of 40:33.7.
On the women's side, freshman Ashley Young and sophomore Halie Bullin were the top TCU finishers with a time of 29:40.9 in the 8K relay race. Sophomore Calandra Stewart and freshman Alyson Travato's time of 30:11.1 was also good enough for a top-10 finish. The freshman tandem of Amanda Foust and Shannon Andrew came in 22nd with a mark of 33:12.9.
TCU is next in action at the UTA Invitational in Arlington, Texas, on Saturday, Sept. 10.
