Huffman batted .353 with 12 home runs and 53 RBI in the 2005 campaign for the Frogs. He then spent his summer playing in the prestigious Cape Cod League.Included below is a Q&A with Huffman.
Q: With temperatures reaching 105 degrees on the field today, is it safe to say you were glad it was the end of two-a-day practices?
A: Definitely. I'm glad it was the last two-a-days of the year. It was extremely hot out here, but we pushed through it well and got better today.
Q: How do you manage your time between playing two sports and squeezing in your studies?
A: You have to be willing to sacrifice a lot. Coming into TCU, I could have never imagined how full my load would be everyday. You really have to sacrifice a lot of social things with people pushing you in different directions. It's important, though, to make sure you keep your priorities in line and take care of business.
Q: You come from a TCU family. How much was that a factor in deciding to become a Horned Frog?
A: It had a lot to do with it. My grandpa, dad and brother played here. I've been wearing a No. 12 TCU jersey every Christmas for as long as I can remember. It's been a longtime dream of mine to play football for the Frogs.
Q: Describe what it was like to be in the Cape Cod League this summer, the ultimate for any college baseball player.
A: Playing in the Cape Cod was definitely a challenge. I realized that I also had to make sacrifices and get ready for football just like my teammates were doing down here. Waking up, watching film, lifting weights and playing against the best competition in the country was fun but also a challenge.
Q: What's your evaluation of the TCU offense during preseason camp?
A: I think we're going to be good. We have a lot of older players who know what they're doing as well as some good playmakers.
