
Ray named to Lombardi Award watch list

FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU defensive tackle Ranorris Ray has been named to the watch list for the 2005 Rotary Lombardi Award, honoring the top lineman in college football.A senior from San Antonio, Ray started all 11 games last season. He had six tackles for a loss with 2.5 sacks. Ray totaled 38 stops on the year, including a season-best seven versus Tulane.
Ray's 16 career starts rank third among returning Frog players.
Ray is the third TCU player to be named to a preseason watch list for a national honor, joining center Stephen Culp (Rimington Award) and quarterback Tye Gunn (Davey O'Brien Award).
The Rotary Lombardi Award will celebrate its 36th year of honoring the finest linemen in college football Dec. 7 at the Hilton Americas Hotel in downtown Houston. All net proceeds from the dinner and related activities are donated to the American Cancer Society. Since the first dinner in 1971, nearly $3.1 million has been raised through the efforts of Rotarians and their guests.
To be eligible for the Rotary Lombardi Award, a player must play on the line of scrimmage (including tight ends on offense) or be a linebacker who lines up within five yards of the football.
The Rotary Lombardi Award Selection Committee is comprised of over 500 members, including all past finalists, all Division I head coaches and a panel of sportswriters and broadcasters.
