FORT WORTH, Texas -- The following is a Q&A with TCU tailback Lonta Hobbs. A senior from Clarksville, Texas, Hobbs ranks eighth on the Frogs' career rushing chart with 2,335 yards. He's tied for second with 31 rushing touchdowns and 34 overall scores. In 2002, Hobbs became the first TCU freshman and just the seventh player overall to rush for 1,000 yards in a season. It was an effort that saw him named team Offensive Most Valuable Player and Conference USA Freshman of the Year. Hobbs was also a Freshman All-American by The Sporting News.Q: What's your take on how preseason camp has gone thus far?
A: It's gone well. We're working hard and it's been really hot and humid. We're committed to doing our best at all times.
Q: You and fellow 1,000-yard rusher Robert Merrill comprise the old guard at running back. What are your thoughts on the younger players at the position?
A: We've got some great young running backs. Justin Watts and Detrick James are coming along well and are going to be good. Detrick is small, quick and physical. We also have a freshman in Aaron Brown who's real fast and a track guy.
Q: The Frog defense has been impressive. What has caught your eye about their performance?
A: They've been great. They're getting to the ball and their pass coverage has improved a lot. We have a lot of safeties doing well and working hard.
Q: What's the best part about being a student at TCU?
A: The university is not that big and you know a lot of the people here. You don't see too many strangers. When you walk around campus, everyone is familiar and friendly.
Q: What are you like away from football?
A: I'm a very relaxed person. I'm quiet and not loud at all. Most people probably would say I don't talk much.
Q: What advice could you provide for someone interested in playing football at TCU?
A: The coaches are going to push you to be the best you can be on and off the field. What's great is that the classes and academics are just as important to the coaches as football. You know you have to work hard in the classroom to earn a diploma. Our coaches make TCU a great school.
