Nine members of the TCU track & field squad will travel to Arlington on Saturday for the UTA Open. The field events get underway at 9 a.m. while the running events begin at 2 p.m. at Maverick Stadium on the UTA campus.
Representing the TCU men will be Brett Wilson in the 400, Joe Kramer in the discus, Joe Brown in the javelin, Mark Lettieri in the long jump and Michael DePriest in both thelong and triple jump events. Donita Harmon (100 and 200), Julie Curtis (100 hurdles, 400 hurdles), MaKeatha Cooper (100 hurdles) and Zelma Wade (discus) will represent the TCU women.
"This will be Donita's first 100 and second 200 of the year," said TCU head coach Darryl Anderson. "She will be a big player for us at the conference meet, but needs this meet because she's been playing `catch up' all year. Hopefully she can get her regional qualifying marks out of the way before the conference meet.
"Julie (Curtis) is getting in better shape and is close to a regional mark in the 400 hurdles," continued Anderson. "MaKeatha (Cooper) just needs to keep racing and get comfortable. She's been practicing very well and needs to carry that over to the meet. This is Brett Wilson's senior year, so we want to let him continue to race. He's getting close to where he was last year when he was an NCAA qualifier, so we'd like to get him back to that point."
The UTA Open is the final tuneup prior to the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which are set for May 12-14 in Houston. Those who have logged regional qualifying times will travel to Norman, Oklahoma for the NCAA Midwest Regional meet, May 27-28. The NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships are set for Sacramento, Calif., June 8-11.
