Langat, John Capture C-USA Track Honors

TCU middle distance runner Jackson Langat and sprinter Nathandra John have been selected as the Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week for their performances on Saturday, April 2 at the UTA Invitational in Arlington, Texas.
Langat, a junior from Kericho, Kenya, ran a 1:46.84 800 meters to break the Maverick Stadium record of 1:46.85, set by former SMU standout Sammie Koskei in 1983 and matched by Freddie Williams of Abilene Christian in 1984 at the UTA Invitational held in Arlington, Texas on Saturday. It was the oldest record on the books at Maverick Stadium. The time was just 43 hundredths of a second off his personal best mark of 1:46.41, set at the 2003 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Langat's effort was just eight-tenths of a second off the TCU school record of 1:46.04, set by Olympian Khadevis Robinson at the 1998 NCAA Championships in Buffalo. Langat also ran a leg on the 4x400-meter relay team that placed second and notched a regional qualifying time of 3:07.99.
John, a sophomore from St. Kitts, recorded three NCAA regional qualifying marks at the UTA Invitational on Saturday. She won the open 400 meters with a time of 53.86 seconds, ran the leadoff leg on TCU's 4x100 meter relay unit that placed third with a regional qualifying time of 45.14, then ran the leadoff leg on the 4x400 meter relay unit that turned in a second place finish with a time of 3:39.57, the sixth fastest time in TCU history. She shares the C-USA weekly award with Shareese Woods from Charlotte.
The Frogs are in action again this week when they travel to Austin to take part in the 78th running of the Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. The meet runs from Wednesday through Saturday at the Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus.
