Several members of the TCU track & field squad will travel to Philadelphia this week for the 111th running of the Penn Relays at venerable Franklin Field. The Frogs will have 10 men and nine women making the trip to Philly.
On Thursday, the TCU women will be in the spotlight. Julie Curtis will start things off in the 400 meter hurdles. Zelma Wade will compete in both the shot put and discus events. Both the women's 4x100 (Nathandra John, Deborah Jones, Jamee Jones, Kandis Bell) and 4x400 (Nathandra John, Jamee Jones, Donita Harmon, Deborah Jones) meter relay units will have their prelims, while Halie Bullin caps things off in the 5,000 meter run.
The men join the action on Friday. TCU will be featured in the men's 4x1 (Delwayne Delaney, Cleavon Dillon, Jay Cooper, Bradley Reed), distance medley (Jackson Langat, Brett Wilson, Jacob Hernandez, Kip Kangogo) and sprint medley (Otis McDaniel, Bradley Reed, Brett Wilson, Jackson Langat) relays. Cleavon Dillon will compete in the long jump competition and MaKeatha Cooper is slated for the 100 meter hurdles. Delwayne Delaney, Bradley Reed, Otis McDaniel, Jay Cooper, Donita Harmon, Jamee Jones and Kandis Bell are all entered in the 100 meter dash.
On Saturday, Joe Brown will compete in the javelin.
"This is traditionally one of the top meets of the year," said TCU head coach Darryl Anderson. "We're looking forward to competing against some of the top teams in the country."
STEWART TO RUN AT CARDINAL INVITATIONAL
Sophomore middle distance runner Calandra Stewart will forego a trip to Philadelphia to compete in the Cardinal Invitational, hosted by Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, on Sunday, May 1. Stewart will be looking for an NCAA regional qualifying mark in the 1,500 meters.
"There will be a very fast field for the 1,500," said TCU distance coach Patrick Cunniff. "Calandra is very close to posting a regional time and we think this will give her the best opportunity to accomplish that goal."
