Flyin' Frogs Grounded For 2005 Post-Season

Texas Christian University's investigation into its men's track and field program to date has uncovered numerous violations of NCAA rules. In response, TCU has taken the following preliminary actions that were necessary to impose prior to the beginning of the 2005 spring semester:
* The TCU men's track & field team will not participate in the 2005 NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championships, either as a team or as individuals.
* The TCU men's track & field scholarship limits have been frozen at 10.1 per year - 2.5 scholarships less than the 12.6 allowed by the NCAA.
* The TCU men's track & field program will face a reduction in the number of on-campus visits from prospective student-athletes.
At the completion of the NCAA investigation, TCU will determine additional appropriate self-imposed sanctions.
"Violations took place in the men's track & field program under the previous coaching staff," said TCU Athletics Director Eric Hyman. "Unfortunately, there are consequences for that conduct, which is what we are now facing. We believe these initial self-imposed disciplinary actions are an appropriate component of our overall response to a very serious situation. We wanted to take a proactive approach in responding to the violations as an institution, because we believe very strongly in the rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA," said Hyman.
"There is never a good time to face disciplinary actions," said head coach Darryl Anderson. "However, we agreed it was best to take these preliminary steps now. Our focus this season will be to compete for a conference championship and continue to move the program forward."
TCU will continue to cooperate fully with the NCAA's investigation until it reaches a full and complete conclusion. The TCU women's track & field program will remain unaffected by the announced disciplinary actions.
