FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU volleyball team hits the road this weekend after a three-match home stand at the University Rec Center. The team will square off against New Mexico on Friday at the Johnson Center in Albuquerque, N.M., and then head to Colorado Springs, Colo., to take Air Force in a Sunday tilt.
The Frogs downed the Colorado State Rams in five games on Tuesday, Oct. 25, after trailing 2-0. Sophomore Talaya Whitfield led the team with her fifth double-double of the season (16 digs, 14 kills). The sophomore outside-hitter/libero was not the only player to post impressive numbers as freshman setter Nirelle Hampton tallied 55 assists for a new career-high.
After a great win on Tuesday, TCU hosted the No. 13 BYU Cougars and the defending Mountain West Conference regular season co-champion Utah Utes.
TCU looks to even the season series with New Mexico on Friday. In their first meeting with the Lobos, the Frogs fell behind 2-0 before storming back to tie the match at two. In the final game, the Lobos were able to hold off the valiant effort by the Frogs to take a 15-12 game five victory.
New Mexico leads the all-time series, 3-0.
The Purple and White captured their first-ever Mountain West Conference victory by defeating Air Force in four games on Oct. 7. Freshman Nirelle Hampton posted only the second triple-double (41 assists, 15 digs and 11 kills) in Frogs' history and is the only MWC player to accomplish the feat this season. Junior Anna Vaughn finished with 19 kills while hitting .529.
The Horned Frogs own the all-time series advantage, 2-1.
