FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU football team has climbed three spots to No. 15 in this week's Division I-A Top 25 polls by the Associated Press and USA Today. The Mountain West Conference champion Horned Frogs (10-1, 8-0) completed their regular season last night with a 51-3 victory over UNLV.
TCU, USC and Texas are the only teams in the nation with 10 wins. The Frogs have won nine in a row for the third-longest current winning streak in the country, behind only the Trojans (32) and Longhorns (17).
TCU's nine-game victory run is its longest since winning 12 in a row in a stretch that spanned the final two games in 2002 and the opening 10 contests in 2003.
TCU has reached 10 wins for the fourth time in the last six seasons.
Gary Patterson became the first TCU head coach to record three 10-win campaigns. Patterson has been on staff for four of the eight 10-win seasons in Frog history. He was defensive coordinator under Dennis Franchione in 2000.
TCU has posted its first undefeated conference record since the 1938 national championship team when it competed in the Southwest Conference. It's only the fourth perfect league mark in school history. The Frogs were also undefeated in the 1932 SWC campaign as well as their 1920 season in the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
TCU has recorded the third undefeated conference record (BYU, 2001; Utah, 2004) in Mountain West Conference history. The Frogs are the first team to go 8-0 in MWC play. The league's previous unbeaten squads were 7-0.
TCU did not allow a touchdown in its final two regular-season games, holding Colorado State and UNLV to three field goals. In the process, the Frogs outscored the Rams and Rebels by a combined 84-9 score.
The Frogs have their highest ranking since they were 10th in the Nov. 16, 2003 AP poll.
