Streaming video, free admission and a volleyball clinic, as the newest member of the Mountain West Conference, the TCU volleyball team is ready for an action packed weekend as they host Air Force on Friday night at 7 and New Mexico at 7 on Saturday. The weekend contests will mark the first ever MWC play at the University Rec Center.
TCU is currently 10-6 on the season and 0-2 in conference play. The Frogs started conference play with a tough road trip to Utah to take on No. 16 BYU and Utah last weekend. In the match versus BYU, the team lost in three games in front of a hostile crowd of more than 1,300.
Quickly bouncing back from the setback a night before, the Frogs took game one in Salt Lake City before falling to the defending conference champion Utah in four games.
Junior Anna Vaughn led the team over the weekend with 26 kills and sophomore Talaya Whitfield was one kill short of recording her third double-double of the season versus Utah, racking up nine kills and 16 digs. The leader in kills, Vaughn, and the leader in digs, Whitfield, look to push the Frogs to a pair of conference wins this weekend.
Air Force is currently 4-15 overall and 0-5 in the MWC. This will be the third meeting between the Falcons and the Frogs in a series that dates back to 1998. The series is knotted at one with each institution winning on its home court. In their last match, the Falcons fell to New Mexico in four games.
New Mexico boasts a record of 10-5 overall and 2-3 in conference play. The Lobos are second in the league in total blocks (165.5) and Chelsea Sondrup leads the league in the category with 81.0. The Lobos are 2-0 all-time versus the Horned Frogs.
Friday night's contest will mark the launch of TCU volleyball broadcast through streaming video via the internet. Log on to www.gofrogs.com to watch all of the action.
Before the Saturday match versus New Mexico, volunteer director of operations, Jeff Lewis, will conduct a free clinic for kids of all ages and admission to the match will be free to the general public.
The action all begins at 7 p.m. when the Air Force Falcons fly into town tonight.
