FORT WORTH, Texas - After knocking off Wyoming in three games on Tuesday night at the University Rec Center, the Horned Frog volleyball team heads to Las Vegas on Friday night to take on UNLV and San Diego on Sunday for an afternoon matchup versus San Diego State.
UNLV moved to 8-8 overall and 4-1 in conference after a 3-1 home victory over San Diego State last Friday at Cox Pavilion. UNLV's Lauren Miramontes tallied 23 kills to lead all scorers while hitting .347 and was one-of-four Rebels to record 10 or more kills.
The all-time series between the Frogs and the Rebels is tied at one with each team taking a victory at home.
San Diego State is currently on a two-match slide after falling to No. 15 San Diego in five games on Tuesday night. With the loss, the Aztecs fell to 11-7 on the season (3-2 MWC). SDSU's Audra Dent handled the offensive duties with 16 kills and Aime Cordeiro handled the defensive duties with 12 kills. The Aztecs hold a 2-0 all-time series lead versus the Frogs.
TCU is currently 12-7 on the season and 2-3 in conference play. Freshman Nirelle Hampton is the reigning MWC Player of the Week after posting her first-career triple-double (41 assists, 15 digs, 11 kills). Sophomore Talaya Whitfield is also coming off an impressive match, registering 22 digs in TCU's victory over Wyoming. The 22 digs was one shy of tying her own school record for digs in a three-game match.
With conference action in full swing, the young Frogs are eager to get back on the court. The action for the Frogs will get started on Friday night at 8 p.m. (CDT). The Sunday tilt versus San Diego State is slated for 1 p.m. (PDT).
